Join us at Wild Trumpets this Summer for a week-long exploration of wearable art, costume, and textile. Children will cut, dye, stitch, reconstruct, and invent characters.
A textile artist will be working with us throughout the week, offering inviting children to try out techniques such as hand-stitching, appliqué, embellishment, and guided use of sewing machines (optional and age-appropriate).
Each day takes inspiration from artists who transform bodies and clothing into sculptural or performative artworks.
• Wura-Natasha Ogunji – performance + stitched wearables
• Monster Chetwynd – wild theatrical costume and props
• Annette Messager – soft sculpture and poetic textile
• Lygia Pape – participatory, spatial fabric works
• Lucy Orta – clothing as architecture and protest
• Colette Lumiere – immersive textile environments
• Sterling Ruby – rebellious deconstruction of garments
Activities will include:
• Customising clothing (bring old T-shirts or denim!)
• Collaborative flag-making
• Costume building with recycled materials
• Making wearable sculptures
• Optional sewing sessions with support
No prior sewing or art experience needed, just curiosity and imagination.
No tickets are currently available to book.
